Do the Shag
The shag is a smooth, swinging dance that started in the late 40's and early 50's in the Ocean Drive of the Grand Strand. The origin and date is hotly debated since the shag is an outgrowth of other dances form other eras and points of origin.
A male-led dance, the dance evolved into a female spotlighted dance. Most of the time, it is still the man who shines. The dance is done mainly from the waist down with a hint of upper body movement.
The Steps: basic, female under arm turn, male under arm turn, pivot.
Other Steps: sugarfoot, belly roll. Duckwalk, the hop, set-up, around-the-world, fly-back, trail.
